CRAB volunteers are dependable, energetic and compassionate about teaching sailing to our guests with disabilities. Our season runs from April to October, with flexibility for weekday and weekend volunteers.

Volunteer Interest Form

CRAB has special procedures in place to ensure proper distancing, sanitation, and disinfecting for our volunteers, guests, equipment and boats. CRAB skippers must have extensive sailing experience and a sailing resume is required and reviewed before going through the check-out process.  CRAB welcomes crew members and dock support staff who may be learning about sailing for the first time.  We are proud that CRAB's volunteer training program is a recognized and award winning program that ensures the safety, comfort, and enjoyment of our guests and volunteers.

A Volunteer Waiver Form is required from all volunteers each season. Download Volunteer Waiver Form.

CRAB strives to offer our guests with disabilities, a comfortable and enjoyable experience. As part of volunteer registration, all volunteers are asked to read and sign the CRAB Operations Manual.

Volunteers must be 18 years or older.

As a Disabled Sports USA Chapter, CRAB is SafeSports compliant. View the handbook here.

CRAB is seeking volunteers in the following areas:

Skippers work directly with CRAB Fleet Directors to ensure every guest they sail with has a safe and joyful experience. CRAB Skippers take guests sailing on our fleet of Beneteau 22A's. Skippers should have substantial small sailboat experience and will be required to complete a CRAB Skipper Training Session before taking the helm.

CRAB Crew volunteers assist the Skipper when taking guests sailing and racing in regattas. Tasks include assisting guests with boarding and disembarking boats, handling the sails, and any other assistance a skipper may need to keep guests comfortable during their boating experience.

CRAB Guest Liaisons provide guests with assistance with their personal floatation devices and ensure each guest has had access to water and sunscreen prior to their sail. Liaisons also help guests with waivers and any special requests they may have before sailing.

Throughout the year, CRAB hosts regattas, sailing clinics and sailing camps.  Our volunteers assist with set-up, registration, sale of tickets, clean-up and miscellaneous activities associated with a successful event.  These events can range in size from 16 to 500 people.

If you have office, social media, marketing, IT skills, or boat maintenance that you would like to share with CRAB, please feel free to notify staff of your interest and capabilities.
