Designed to introduce guests with disabilities and their families to the therapeutic value, fun, teamwork, and freedom of sailing on Chesapeake Bay. The Family Sail program is scheduled one Sunday each month and select weekdays from April through October. Information on Family Sail Sundays is available on the CRAB calendar and reservations are REQUIRED due to our COVID-19 modifications. We will not be able to accommodate guests without a reservation. Please email Matt@crabsailing.org for available dates.
Our volunteer Skippers and Crew look forward to teaching sailing to newcomers and returning guests. Unless noted on the calendar, we offer Family Sails from CRAB's dock at Sandy Point State Park (near the Marina Store). Directions to the dock are on the contact page (do not come to CRAB's office address). Weekend sailing trips are approximately 45-minutes and weekday sails 2 hours. However, they can be modified depending on the weather, number of guests waiting, and personal circumstances.
To make reservations for a Family Sail Sunday or weekday, please email Matt@crabsailing.org. Please dress appropriately for the weather. In the Spring the water is much cooler than land temperatures. Dressing in layers is always recommended anytime of the year. Also note that each guest is required to sign a yearly waiver form which may be downloaded below and signed in advance. Please bring this completed form with you.

Mask Policy Update:
6/11/2021 - CRAB announces the latest change in mask policy. No masks are required on land or on boats for volunteers and guests who are fully vaccinated and provide CRAB Staff with proof of vaccination. Any volunteer or guest who cannot prove they are vaccinated must wear a mask on land and on the boat while sailing.
CRAB will continue to monitor and take into consideration changes to CDC guidelines regarding the wearing of masks. In addition, CRAB strongly encourages all volunteers and guests to be vaccinated. CRAB reserves the right to prohibit any unvaccinated volunteer or guest from sailing in the future to ensure the highest level of safety.
CRAB guests are required by the park to pay the customary service charge for entry to Sandy Point State Park unless they possess a Maryland Park Service Golden Age Pass, a Maryland Park Service Annual Passport, or a DNR Universal Disability Pass. The DNR Universal Disability Pass is free and does not require renewal. For more information click HERE. Military personnel who display active military identification also have the day use service charge waived.
NOTE: Once the park is closed due to full capacity, there is no entry for Family Sail participants.
