Brian Jamieson

President, Board of Directors

Brian is the founder and president of SB Microsystems, a technology company in Columbia, MD that develops highly miniaturized sensor systems for medical applications, defense, homeland security and consumer products.  Brian serves as an industrial advisor to the Georgetown University Graduate Physics Program and is a Steering Committee member and former chairman of the Mid-Atlantic MEMS Alliance, a consortium of government agencies, private companies and Universities dedicated to the commercialization of miniaturization technologies.

Brian traces his love of science and engineering to an elementary school visit from the Franklin Institute, and tries to pass this love along to others by leading after-school and summer science experiences for elementary schools students in Anne Arundel County and elsewhere. With his wife and two children he recently taught science on a Lakota Indian Reservation in Minnesota. Brian sits on the Science Advisory Board of the Maryland Science Center and Maryland Academy of Sciences.

Brian is an Olympic medalist (1996) in rowing, for which he credits his father, who introduced him at a young age to the joys of spending a day on the water. He loves swimming, rowing, and all forms of recreation on the water and while he doesn’t (yet) know a halyard from a hammock, he does understand the restorative effects of a day of boating and through CRAB seeks to share that experience with others.

His community service activities have included:

  • Severna Park Community Center- Board of Directors and Capital Campaign Co-chair
  • Maryland Science Center- Board of Scientific Advisors
  • Annapolis Backpack Buddies- student sponsor
  • Lakota Learning Camps- Camp Counselor on Upper Sioux Reservation (2013)
  • Yale Crew Association- Vice President
